Subject: Bending Rope - Ideas Please

Attached Link: Flea Circus - Flea on tightrope

I am modelling a unicycle on a tightrope and have been using Cognito to control the motion via a rack, rocker, gear and cam.

However, I want to rope to dip at the same time as the movement of the cycle.

I tried using Akira Kurozuka's Potentializer but this did not seem to work. I could not perswade the 0 and 100% animation settings to take and I'm not actually sure it would produce quite the right effect.

So does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks, Andy

What about a very thin cylinder in the Spline Modeler with only three cross-sections? You could slide the center cross-section back and forth along the rope and pull it downwards to match wherever the unicycle is at any particular frame.

Well, in this case, first I create the rope with morphs, just like the animation as you need. Then I put the cycle using the motion path as the same animation of the rope. Sorry about my English, Andy. I dont know if I could express myself, but I rope, oops, hope you can catch the idea. ;-)

Try this, Andy. A mix of my and kelleys suggestion. Just change the extension of the rope.txt to rope.car (I use Carrara 4).

I had been thinking along similar lines myself but was hoping that there might be a way of linking it all together. Currently all of the behaviour of the unicycle is controlled by a single parameter. I just change the "motor" and the rest of the behaviour is linked in. I suppose I will just have to animate the rope by hand to match the cycle. Your example will be of great help.

Thanks for the feedback

I'm not familiar with Cognito, [nor have I used morphs, for that matter] but if you made the rope the 'parent' and the unicycle the 'child', it should follow the rope no matter where you pull it.

You could also use potentializer and have it track alongside the unicycle. Brian
