Subject: problems changing the render dimensions in P6

zulu9812 ( ) posted Wed, 06 April 2005 at 10:10 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 10:35 PM

This is all rather frustrating. I'm trying to render a 15-frame animation at a size of 140 pixels x 140 pixels. I change the render size to 140x140 in Render Settings. On the Make Movie screen, I have the resolutions set at 140x140. But when I use the Make Movie screen to render the 15 frames they are all rendered at 550x550. What gives? At the moment I'm having to render & save each frame individually and it's a pain in the arse.

Are you saving the movie file as .avi or image files? I think rendering the movie as image files saves the size. Try pps 348-349 in the manual, maybe the clue can be found there.

sorry, forgot to mention that I was saving as image files

Choose Render > Render Dimensions. You set dimensions for renders in a separate window now. You choose Match Preview Window, Fit in Preview Window, or Render to Exact Resolution.

That's what I did - Render to Exact Resolution

OK, after that you go into the Movie Settings tab of the Render Settings dialog. There are dimensions there as well that might be affecting your render settings.

Yep, done that - still renders the images to 550x550. It seems as though the quick render size section (the bit where you select Full, Half, Quarter or Preview) is overriding manual settings.

OK ... I set the document window to 550 by 550. In the Render Dimensions window, I selected "Render to exact resolution." Then I clicked the Match Document Window button, and checked "Constrain aspect ratio." Then I changed render dimensions to 140 by 140. I choose Animation > Make Movie. Format AVI, Renderer Firefly. In the Resolution section, I unchecked "constrain aspect ratio" and manually entered 140 by 140. Then I put "Constrain aspect ratio" back on. (For some reasons this didn't change automatically when I set up the render dimensions stuff.) Anyway, after doing all that, the Full render dimensions do display 140 x 140.

Mmm...still no joy...thanks for your help btw. I tried rendering to an avi and a series of bmps. Still gives a pic size of 550x550. I'm attaching screenshots of render dimensions and movie settings screens, if that helps.
