Hi,

We've just released the content updater for Mac and Windows at http://www.contentparadise.com/user/home.php?cat=435.

Thank you,

Steve

Hi Steve - Let me be the first to say thanks for the quick response. I know you guys have been taking some heat for the problems in P6. This will help mend a few fences. Looking forward to some of the other issues being addressed in the same timely manner. - Dave B

I am very appreciative of a content updater. That's great. It's good to see this type of response from Curious Labs.

Fixing the render memory bug will be even better.

Thanks, and looking forward to the first service patch.

Fixing the render memory bug will be even better. At that point, I should be able to give this program a 99.99% rating. Outside of the memory bug, it's a beautiful thing.

Weeeeelll The bug where the mat room freaks out if you enter it with the main camera selected if pretty... as the kid's say... "effed up right there dude." ^_^ Thanks for the content updater. Looking forward to the first bug fix.

I just downloaded the update. Thanks. It's still missing the P5 kids, and nude Judy. The latest version of Poser I had was P4, and I was under the impression that all legacy content would be included. My install of Poser6 has P1, 2, 3, and 4 people and animals, the PP/P5 cartoon characters, Don and Judy Casual Hair and Don For Walk Designer. Also, many of the library thumbs are blank, for example, the James and Jessi expressions.

mathman ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 3:07 AM

There's also the very nasty Color Tool problem that needs to be fixed up

Puntomaus ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 3:21 AM

Is this update only available at Content Paradise and not from the CL website (at least it's not there right now)? I don't have any intentions to create an account at Content Paradise so please make it available from the website as well!

caulbox ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 3:52 AM

I agree - apart from the obvious and unnecessary commercial linking, it's a horribly sluggish site for us dial-up users.

Puntomaus ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 4:09 AM

From what I've seen it's only an update for the P6 people and since I kicked all the native P6 stuff out of P6 already I don't need this update anyway.

What is in this update? I just finished DL and Would like to know what it fixes before I install. It really is a Very unfriendly site for us dailup users. It took almost 1/2hour, OK 20 minutes to get to the DL. Watched a whole movie waiting for the DL.

momodot ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 5:15 AM

I just find the interface at Conten Paradise utterly frustrating! I wish there was a minimalist style interface at every site. I have Flash blocked because of my slow dial up and I hate Java and all that stuff on principal... I would block scripting on security grounds but then I wouldn't be able to shop or view people's dumbbum menus. These effects and styles are crutches/causes of bad design. I think if a site can't be Netscape 2.0 compatable the designer is 2.0 lazy!!! I'm set up to intercept every cookie and spyware and you would be amazed what turns up! N.B. I don't use Internet Explorer or Netscape... but be careful, many browsers macarade as independent but actualy drive off the MSIE engine --the favorite tube for viris and worms.

Ugh! I am trying to DL from Content Paradise in another tab and I can't see what I'm doing for all the "Fries with that?" and "May I supersize that?" Normally I am blind to banners et al. but in Paradise I would say there is 80% "pitch" space to maybe 20% "actually going about my buisness" space. Maybe if I had some gignormous screen the situation would not be so bad...

Tashar59 ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 5:25 AM

Thanks Kingfisher. Some good came of this. To bad, I thought they might fix the poor material groups on the new figures. Guess I'll have to fix them myself.

Cometsoft ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 5:45 AM

It would be nice if they put in the missing clown texture for the tutorial project (I think some other tutorial related stuff was missing also) and a pdf keyboard shortcuts for people who bought the download version.

yp6 ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 5:45 AM

Is "content paradise" now the method of choice for providing fixes? What happened to http://www.curiouslabs.com/go/downloads ?

onimusha ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 5:51 AM

It was a real pain to download as well. Had to go dig up my serial number...

bkmrk Question: why some people have these troubles with ContentParadise? Whats about create an account or download the update from here or there? I dont understand. I created yesterday an account and I have downloaded 5 freebies $0. It rules!

could some kind soul tell me exactly where the =hell= they hid the download link for the updater? After doing the stupid forced registration and check out, there seems to be a nice invoice, and no link to anything like an executable. For 3rd party content this might be acceptable; but for obtaining a =FIX= for the content that came with the software? Not Acceptable. In fact is smells suspiciously like a gimmick to generate a lot of active hits on CP, to make it look like it actually performing as intended...

This really is somewhat unprofessional... There should've been some kind of newsletter and the download should really be at the CL site. Funny thing is this little article at CL does link to the CL downloads/updates page... But there is no update available. "A few last minute corrections to the content library did not make it into the installer. Please apply the content service release available here. "

Yesterday's the past, tomorrow's the future, but today is a gift. That's why it's called the present.

Dale B. I just clicked on the word Download on the Invoice page.
Towards bottom of page & to the right.

Nah, CL has far too much respect for their customers to pull something like that. They wouldn't do that any more than they'd sell a product before it was ready for general consumption. ;)

Tiny ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 6:13 AM

Thank you CuriousL.

I only have one little problem at the CP site: I click the 'add to cart' and still have nothing in the cart.
Have tried several times.Been logged in, given serial #, etc.
Empty cart. Anyone else getting empty carts?

jehllm ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 6:14 AM

I agree with the comments about how hard it is to use it - for a bug download, you should not have to go through all the steps as if you were buying it, setting up new user accounts. I like Poser 6, but isn't it embarrassing enough to have to acknowledge bugs without making the acquisition of the fix more frustrating than the bugs?

Dale B ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 6:14 AM

Hmm. I only had to toggle between pages 4 times for the link that says 'download' to actually be active... If they put the actual SR 1 on CP, there is going to be...dissatisfaction in the ranks, methinks...

Little_Dragon ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 6:20 AM

People need to read the statement at this link. Here's a translation: "Dear customers, we released P6 knowing it had critical bugs that any normal application would never be able to include [like memory management]. Sorry for the inconvenience, but thanks for your money, if the program ruins hours of work time, we could care less."

zulu9812 ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 6:25 AM

I suspect that the content updater is on Content Paradise as a means to push the damn thing on us again.

jehllm ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 6:46 AM

ok,now i get it - back out the previous order with the serial number before the log in, then re-order under the log in putting in the serial number, then it gives the download screen. seems like a lot of work for a bug fix.

R_Hatch ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 6:50 AM

In their defense: you don't have to go to CP through Poser, and it costs nothing to register or download the updater. That having to re-enter the serial sounds like a pain though.

Casette ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 6:54 AM

"That having to re-enter the serial sounds like a pain though." In order to avoid pyracy I suppose

Natolii ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 7:12 AM

Agreed, Rafa... I had a little issues with logging in. But once the account was set up, you get the nice little option to store your Serial Number with your account. (Before anyone complains about THAT ONE, Bioware does it as well.) Once you get the account established, it give you 2 avenue's to work with. Through the Content Paradise Tab or through your web browser. SO far I am neutral on this one.

Puntomaus ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 7:23 AM

"Question: why some people have these troubles with ContentParadise? Whats about create an account or download the update from here or there? I dont understand. I created yesterday an account and I have downloaded 5 freebies $0. It rules!"

Ok, it might rule for you but not for me. I do not want to give my private information AGAIN in order to recieve an update/program fix. I have given my information already to them as I purchased the program - how many times they need to get this info from me?

I have no problems to enter my P6 serial in order to get an update over at the CL website but I have a problem when someone tries to force me to create an account at a site that I do not wish to register too.

Casette ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 7:39 AM

Dont kill me. Only it dont seems important to me I explain: you go to freestuff, and many of the items are in sites where a) you register and you get it, or b) you dont register and you dont get it. Well, probably I would like download my stuff directly from Rosity Freestuff. But as it isnt possible, Im registered (as probably all of us and you) in Renderosity, Renderotica, RuntimeDNA. PlantIt, Sara3DCreations, Sixus1, and a long list of etcs... so ONE MORE??? A drop in the sea. ALL THE SITES want you create an account. System would be different or better, but "as is", it sounds easy: you register, you get; you dont register, you dont get :)

If you check the "registered users who downloaded the updater"
against your list of copies sold, you'd probably find out how
many users were using "liberated" copies????

I always see a motive :)

"Dear customers, we released P6 knowing it had critical bugs that any normal application would never be able to include [like memory management]. Sorry for the inconvenience, but thanks for your money, if the program ruins hours of work time, we could care less." That is just silly! Hello? Most programs have some issues when they are released. Any remember that little company Microsoft? I for one think CL is doing a great job getting the product released and addressing the communities issues. I dunno, I guess I'm happy with it! Oh, and I LOVE Jessie! :)

yp6 ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 7:56 AM

ALL THE SITES want you create an account. System would be different or better, but "as is", it sounds easy: you register, you get; you dont register, you dont get The difference is that this is a fix for a broken product, something we've already paid for. CL has turned their mistake into a marketing opportunity. They've been trying to cram content paradox down our throats since P5, now they're using their own screw-up to tell us the product we purchased from them isn't going to work right unless we sign up.

I was already registered at Content, and I just downloaded the updater but I noticed when you type in your Registration #, it is not protected - that is, you don't have the padlock icon below... Seemed odd as well to find the updater there while there is nothing at the CL site. :)

ericwiz ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 8:19 AM

hee hee. I am happy with CL though. I dont find the CP thing a big deal myself. That's not to belittle when many of you feel is a big deal, just my opinion.

since content paradise is "a part of" Poser. what better place to put an update than "in" poser? What more efficient and secure way than entering it into a market place database. Givem a few weeks the web guys might get around to putting it on the main site. On to of that....What better way to find out what is wrong with your website than to get people to it and listen to them complain :)

I dont find the CP thing a big deal myself. By itself, it's not a huge deal. On top of all the other crap CL pulls, it's fuel to the fire. Even M$ respects their customers enough to permit product updates without a bunch of marketing.

randym77 ( ) posted Thu, 07 April 2005 at 8:42 AM

If they can "liberate" Poser, why not "liberate" the upgrade, too?

I am glad they fixed the hands and feet. And the neck!

But I'd rather they fix the bugs in the program...
