This has happened before. Someone here was told his serial number was invalid. It had been used more than 10 times, and therefore was deemed "pirated." They had the record of his buying Poser. He claimed that it wasn't possible for someone to have stolen his serial, and that his computer was well-protected behind a hardware firewall. But they still insisted his serial was pirated. Finally, after he complained for about a week, they relented.

Honestly, this anti-piracy stuff is getting annoying. It doesn't faze actual pirates for a minute. Cracked versions of new software and games show up on P2P before they're even in the stores. But the "protection" measures are a PITA to the honest customers.
