That is a reference to the book or movie "The Wizard of Oz." Oz is a magical land and a girl called dorothy goes there, and she is looking for "the wonderful wizard of oz" who can help her get home again. She meets up with some other folks who also want to find the wizard and they are told to "follow the yellow brick road" (which they sing a long and fairly entertaining song about in the movie). The yellow brick road leads to the emerald city, which is a city made of emerald (the green jewel), where the wizard lives. Pretty much every child in america grows up watching this movie on television or video, and it has a lot of neat images in it--flying monkeys, a wicked witch, a talking scarecrow, a tin man.
