Even the women who weren't really classically beautiful (Bette Davis, Joan Crawford) had so much personality that you couldn't ignore them on screen. I can't think of many of the new young group of fashionables that holds on to a scene that way. Audrey Hepburn definistely one of those beauties with personality....so much going on behind her eyes that had nothing to do with a perfect nose. I loved Leslie Caron too because she wasn't such a clone (I love the Poser texture "Gigi" because it reminds me so much of her). And, to be fair, I find the new young male actors just as impossible to tell apart. I was thinking the other day about whether or not Humphrey Bogart could find work if he showed up for a screen test today. Peter Lorre, Charles Laughton, even John Wayne. We are so into lookalikes nowadays that I don't know if true originals have a chance.
