Could it be a codec problem? I've rendered pretty complex animations in P5 using DivX and MS MPEG4-V2, that works fine. The renders crashed when I tried the default codec. Some grammar/spelling errors edited out.

The pen is mightier than the sword. But if you literally want to have some impact, use a typewriter
I have made several test movies (one is 120 frames) in the basic render window style in Avi in Poser6 and had no problems what so ever... sounds like you may have a codec issue, try saving the animation as images and joining together in some movie editing software, or try another avi codec to see if that corrects the issues.
Getting old and still making "art" without soiling myself, now that's success.
Here's one suggestiion, A_ render to individual TIF images Purchase Quicktime Pro for mac or PC ($29.99) at www.apple.com I can post a short description of the process of making a vid from individuals. I use this sequence all the time. If you don't want to use Quicktime, chose a different software to assemble/edit frames. It is a MUCH better plan to render to frames and the assemble, for many reasons. Let me know if you want help with Quicktime. ::::: Opera :::::
Seems like you've got corrupted codecs indeed. Try downloading and installing DivX 5.2.1, VirtualDub should be able to work with DivX. And if that does not work, I'm afraid the best course is backing up everything and a clean reinstall of your machine.

sounds like your windows is going a bit funny, strangely mine was upto a little funnyness a week ago, so i formatted the hell out of my hard drive and intalled windows again, now im happy again... Try typing in AVI CODEC into google and see if there are any codecs you can download, as this may help. Don't bother with the MJPEG AVI codec, as i know Poser doesn't use that style of compression, i know this because my poser was making AVI movies before i downloaded the codec, (I needed this codec because my Digital camera uses it.. silly thing)

I have a problem - Poser will not render any movie files for me.
I made several animations which my Poser 4 could not render. I thought that maybe it was because of the length of the animations, or too many lights and textures for my PC to handle.
so I rendered the animations as image files, and tried to join them in a movie editing program (which gave me trouble in itself, but that's a whole differnt thread).
anyway
I decided to try and render a really simple animation to see if Poser can render that.
I made a 30 frames animations of a moving ball - default lihgts, no textures, not even a ground to cast shadows on.
and Poser did not render that as a movie. :(
I have both P4 and P6 installed.
all of my non-rendered animations problem happened with Poser 4. so I decided to try and render that simple ball animation in Poser 6.
still didn't render.
Only difference between the 2 is this:
P4 simply doesn't render. when I hit the "ok" button in the "make movie" box, it will direct me to save the AVI file, and after I hit "save", it will then do nothing. that's it. will not render, will not crash. just sort of... be there. btw, when i do ctrl+alt+del, Poser 4 is listed there as "running".
in Poser6, however, I get an error message. I hit the "make movie" button, select a folder to save my file in, press "save" and get the error I attached here, and when I press "ok" Poser simply shuts down.
anyone knows what's going on and how i can fix this?
