DAZ|Studio (the second bit is the distinguishing label - DAZ3D is the publisher) is an application that does similar things to Poser, with a slightly different approach. In D|S you can select mulitple body parts for posing, you can point with multiple parts (so you can select parts from the finger up to the shoulder to point at a target, except there's a problem at the moment - it is still in beta), you can change multiple surfaces at one go (with a range of settings mid-way between Poser 4 and the Poser 5/6 Material Room in flexibility). D|S doesn't support magents, dynamic hair or dynamic cloth. In theory it supports weight-mapping, a more advanced form of rigging than the Poser standard, but we've yet to see any benefit from that as no one has made (or at least no one has released) and true D|S native figures. If you have Poser and are happy with the interface then D|S probably doesn't offer anything worth the effort of learning it, but if not it might (being free) be worth a look.
