Attached Link: American Eskimo History
The American Eskimo is not a work dog. They're about two feet high at the shoulders and are a breed that mostly have been used as watchdogs, family pets, and circus dogs when they were brought to the US from Europe. In spite of the name, they're not Alaskan bred dogs or dogs that were used by Eskimos in any historical capacity. It seems that the name was given to avoid the more Germanic sounding "Spitz" name for the breed it came from. The name "American Eskimo" was adopted in 1917 when WWI was at its height The American Eskimo dog is not related to the types of dogs used to pull sleds. They're very cute fluffy pets.
