thanks richard for the link!! :D... usually i use the "edge preserving smooth" in PSP of 1-2 as a regular post process edit & then USM in PS... also quite pleased with the xero plugin... "super smooth" which i use more on a selective basis or layering it in & up contrast to make the black black in those noisy darker images... will give this a try
