This is the DAZ skull I mentioned, which is in a different league to the Poser and retail skeleton meshes. I was correct about the materials problem. It is supposed to be divided up between bone and teeth so you can have them as different colours. But it doesn't work; it's stuck on the 'default' material that applies all over. So for this image, I rendered a version of each and combined them. It's just plain material colours, no textures. Incidentally, this was rendered in Poser6. It makes use of Image Based Lighting, which appears to create a sphere of lights that illuminate according to a 2D light probe (image). It also uses 'Ambient Occlusion', which calculates where surfaces would be darkened from obstruction to all-round light (ambient), and darkens the materials accordingly. It also benefits from the 'Gather' node, which seems pretty much like Bryce True Ambience - except that it works. Also on show is render time polygon subdivision smoothing, so there're no jaggies on the visible edges (there're still some on the top of the skull in a normal render, even on this mesh). This is a user selectable option for each surface, so you can have jaggies or not according to your crease angle and smoothing group preferences. This is a very basic render by someone who is very new to the advanced features of Poser6. Some of the images (amongst all the usual garbage, of course) show Poser6 to be rather amazing. It has sub-surface scattering; depth of field; motion blur; soft shadows; displacement mapping; collision detection; dynamic surfaces with gravity and other forces; particles; script based programming; and loads more. I'll still get Bryce5.5 if it has smoothing under TA, simply because I just love working in Bryce. But I have a useful route to follow if the Bryce update is as minimal as DAZ is presenting. And in that case I can't see me hanging around for Bryce6; things are moving on. As a long-time Bryce fan this makes me sad.
