Best way to achieve it is in post. First, render the scene without the "hologram" figure, then render the figure alone against a blank background. Composite the two renders in post, and you can muck about with the hologram's ambient lighting and transparency to get exactly the result you desire. As a side benefit, you won't have to deal with backfaces or body parts showing through other parts, and you can apply whatever filters you wish to the hologram layer for further enhancement. If Hollywood can do it, why can't we?
