Yes and No. Yes, the base will be free. No, Daz will make a major profit off of this. DS and Bryce working together. Think of all the special extras that they will sell for both apps. Don't get me wrong, it's their apps, they can do what the want. I do think it was a mistake to push Poser users out of the way by making them go the long way around to use Bryce. I'm sure some brain will create a python script that will do this for us poser users someday and we can skip this app that is being force feed down our throats. I too bought Bryce 5.5. It cost me under $20. I may be crazy but I'm not stupid. I can create all the scenes I want and put them into poser/shade a hell of a lot easier than the Daz way.
