Poser - OFFICIAL F.A.Q (Last Updated: 2024 Nov 21 6:06 am)
If you have some sort of modeling software...even one of the free ones..You might consider loading the models in that and exporting out as obj if possible. GMAX will do 3ds formats...but be prepared for a lot of cut and paste using the obj export script for larger models. It's a bit of a pain in the backside, but it does work. Or if possible contact the creators at the sites and see if it's possible to get a copy of the model in obj format?

PoseRay can read LightWave and 3DS and export to OBJ with materials (and POV and Moray too). Check the tutorials in the manual.FlyerX

Accu-Trans, the poor man's PolyTrans, can probably fix it. Import into Accu-Trans, export as OBJ.Accu-Trans is free to try, $20 to buy - on the honor system.

not to be left out..Wings can convert between .3ds and .obj..one thing to try, a slight (.005 or so) bevel of the edges. Tried it once, but I'll have to play with it some more..I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

I've been hunting around the Internet for some good Star Trek style ships to import into Poser, and I've found a lot of 'em in various formats (mainly 3DS and Lightwave). Unfortunately, Poser's not really up to doing a good job of importing them. Does anybody have any suggestions about importing these formats into Poser without looking like crap? I've been using Accutrans and UV Mapper to try and fix the meshes up, but I have to admit I don't really know what I'm doing here. I've been using starships from http:www.startrekaustralia.com and http://www.scifi-meshes.com, among others. thradge
