heyas; my hypothesis is that it is 'gimbal lock.' if you rotated it 90 or 180 degrees on one axis to get it to point a particular way, then try to rotate it normally, this will sometimes happen. try rotating it a bit less than 90/180 degrees at first (ie: 89 degrees or 179). see if that helps.
