Complex objects can not be exported from Bryce. Anyone can correct me if I am wrong, but the only things that can be exported are terrains. It something that Bryce users have been biching about for a long time.

From the FAQ: I can't export my object, the "Export Object" option is grayed out in my menu. *Bryce will not export out its primitives or metaballs. And, no, there is no 3D file converter for .obp's. *Bryce can export out its Terrains, and Lattices and rocks as a generic 3D file (3ds, dxf, x, id4, lws, mts, 16-bit pgm, rds, hf, cob, dem, vsa, wrl, obj, nff) *Bryce can export its Rocks as a generic 3D file (3ds, dxf, x, id4, lws, rds, cob, vsa, wrl, obj, nff) *Other Bryce properties can be exported out only in their native Bryce format (trees, skies, mats, obp's, texture files, etc) *Un-exportable items can be saved as a Bryce .obp (object preset), and saved/exported out (again, only as an .obp) *Generic mesh files that are previously imported into Bryce, can then be exported out as a generic 3D file. (formats are the same as Bryce Rock) This allows Bryce to be a quick and dirty 3D file converter if need be. See how to do this kind of exporting here.

This question gets asked once a week, around here. It's as sure as the sun, and just as unfixable!

Hmm. That was on 5.0 Is 5.5 any better? If this new version still does not properly export Boolean objects as a .obj I am glad I did not buy it yet. Frans

No version of Bryce will ever export it's primitives, until Bryce 9. Luckily, they are skipping version 8, so we really have only THREE more versions to wait for this function... (sarcasm)

someone please remind me how to re export a obj that was imported i cant remember 4 the life of me

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 5:20 PM

The same way you'd export any other thing, in any other program. Select it, go to "Export", and boom, you're done.

shadow_dancer ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 6:03 PM

wrong in bryce 5 you go to edit and ctl d but in 5.5 it would not work is why i was stumped but thankfully i have b5 still on my pc:)

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 6:14 PM

Hmm, Export works fine for me, in Bryce 5.01. Perhaps you're not using the updated version?

shadow_dancer ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 8:01 PM

have the update

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 8:10 PM

Alas, though, I'd like to be helpful in some way at least! What is it you're trying to export, and what are you using for rendering? I'm curious, and didn't mean to be offensive... Perhaps there's a stray Bryce light or primitive in your mess? One you didn't see?

shadow_dancer ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 9:03 PM

tell you exactly what i did exported lyns doe and fawn outta poser 6 imported to bryce did the rotations ungrouped deleted the phantom horns deleted ground moved camera regrouped clicked box ctl d and got some error tried twice opened bryce 5 and did exactly the same thing and it exported fine

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 10:15 PM

Sounds like 5.5 has yet another bug... Perhaps they forgot all about testing the .obj coding, after all... (I personally don't think I'll bother with 5.5, seems like more trouble than it's worth...)

shadow_dancer ( ) posted Fri, 13 May 2005 at 11:05 PM

it does render faster has more mats and objects like poser 5 it ll get all the buggys moved out as soon as the next bryce is doe out ;)
