A fine idea.

Of course, one can effectively do this already: just don't read the posts that one might find upsetting.

Personally, I've never used the "ignore" feature -- even on sites where it's available. If someone wishes to say something about me -- have at it. I'm not the type that's particularly bothered by being insulted. Or by having my thinking challenged.

I know other sites have this feature so that one member can choose to ignore another members post that may/usually upset them.

As I've already said in another thread: ignorance is bliss.

We seem to have cultivated a few incredibly chatty members that twenty and thirty (plus) post to just one thread has become the norm for them.

You know......the very concept of "debate" involves an exchange of ideas. Give and take. Not just "make a single statement, and then go away".

shrug

If the administration chooses to make such a rule, then that's fine with me.

But I find it odd that we've got people complaining bitterly about their not having any free speech rights on the one hand: and then complaining bitterly about fellow forumites exercising their free speech rights on the other.

PS -- if my thoughts bother you, or make you uncomfortable -- then please ignore this post.
