Watch a number of nature documentaries on spiders. There are books on animation for 2 and 4 legged animals but I haven't seen similiar reference for insects and spiders. Having a doco on dvd would allow you to slow-mo a spider walking. Also LOTR 3 and 8 Legged Freaks feature spiders.
