Real time. Mmmmmmm. That's a beautiful word! ;-)
The graphics look really amazing and lifelike. Far beyond even Doom 3 and more like what we spend hours rendering. However, those examples were "realtime" cinematics, not actual gameplay.
Looking forward to it, but will probably be several more years at least before Realtime like that hits your average 3D app, and even then you'd most likely need customized hardware to use it.
Before getting too excited, see here for more discussion on this:
PS3 At CGTalk
"The Xbox 360 showed only in-game footage. Sony are showing you PRE-RENDERED sequences. Killzone is not in-game, it was Pre-Rendered by a company in the UK."
"Notice that you can see the polygon edges and the normal map texels in the UT2007 video very clearly. No sign of that in the Killzone vid... there is a very big quality difference."
It seems like there's some controversy as to if this is truthfully the realtime graphics we're seeing from Sony, or pre-rendered sequences.
On another note, Nvidia claims realtime photorealism in 3D apps won't be here for at least another 8 to 10 years.
