Subject: HELP HELP !!! MY MONKEY DOESN"T TALK, ( Poser question)

tropob ( ) posted Mon, 16 May 2005 at 8:43 AM · edited Thu, 27 February 2025 at 2:36 AM

Hello all Anyone else have "Saru", the free monkey here in freebies section. Well i'm having a problem with him. I want to make a Mimic animation but when i apply the mimic pose to him, he doesn't even open the mouth. I know why, it's because he doesn't have any mouth morphs aside from Open mouth.( no t, s, o, etc... sounds) is there anyway to add all the basic talking morphs to him? thanks

OR IS THERE ANY other cute monkey that's Mimic ready?

shedofjoy ( ) posted Mon, 16 May 2005 at 10:28 AM

I have not used the Monkey character so i do not know what facial morphs it has, But as an example i am using the GIRL (which is Mimic ready) but is crap in mimic, so i made a new set of morphs and used the V3 setting in mimic and now the GIRL talks more realistically. To do this you can make morphs from existing facial morphs and name them the same as the V3 morphs,ie "smile","Mouth O" etc, and save the character to your library with the facial morphs, then it should work in mimic. (stand the V3 character next to the Monkey, pose the V3 face in the required position and use morphs on the monkey to create a similar facial shape and apply that as a morph to the monkey vie spawning, and naming the morph to the same as the V3 character) I hope that was of some help.

The monkey works great with PoserSpeak! Open the monkey in Poser, select the head, open PoserSpeak, click on Morph tab, choose the morphs you want to route to his existing mouth open morphs! hope this helps, james true

Oh wow, nice idea. shedof. thanks alot and to 3dtrue, i think i'll stick with shedof's idea since you know nobody likes mac users( and that poserSpeak is for windows only)

Thanks everyone. so, i was trying to do the monkey morphs and did successfully did them. BUT i notice that my morph not only changes the mouth shape, but also changes the eyes that is, for example when i posed my monkey to a "Mouth O" position( the closest i could, with his included morphs), then i SPAWN MORPH target. when i posed to the O, his eyes were kind of angry. so then when i used the newly created "Mouth O" morph on the monkey, not only his mouth changes but also his eye brow( gets angry look)... but i don't want this. i don't want the eyes to change, just the mouth. how can i Spawn a morph target for only the mouth?? thanks

i know you guys don't want PoserSpeak, but darn this is exactly why i developed it. If anyone else reading doesn't want to pay the $200.00 for mimic and not have to go through making custom morphs (yuck). Check out PoserSpeak. To turn on or off the eye animations for example, you simply click the eyes checkbox on or off. Same for mouth and brows too. Also works right out of the box on the monkey no need to first own v3, then export a special morph then try and figure out why it's not working.

3Dtrue, that's great. BUt your PoserSpeak is not for Macos X.. is it??? So don't get angry at me. I would love to have it, but it's for windows only

1)you could use magnets to re-shape the eyebrows to a more pleasing position. 2)use a 3d package (ie Shade7,3ds max, maya, truespace, etc) to alter the eyebrows, this is a more complex task than 1) as for 3dtrue, there is no need to get angry, me and tropob have both already have Mimic. I have looked at your software poserspeak and is good piece of software, the only thing i myself had a little problem with was the voice creation software, which is an excellent idea but when you play back the speach there is an audible (Bubble) in the voices which (thankfully) is becomming less and less noticable as the software is improved, but non the less is still there, what i would suggest for the next version which i would really be intersted in is if you added Voice changing software as well, that way the user can use there own voice and alter it to what they want and use that.... no more finding voice actors and no audible bubbling.. hope this was of some help and i will watch your software with interest and hope you look into the voice changing idea

ohh before you ask no i don't have poserspeak i have seen the demos, and when i say the software voice bubbling is becoming less and less noticeable i mean with all artificial voice software. anyways that about clears that up.. :)

sorry you felt like i was mad, i have re-read my post several times and i'm not sure how you got that impression. Thanks for the ideas, I actually have a beta version going of PoserWav. But it's PC too. Again i figured someone with a pc without Mimic might read this and appreciate knowing their is an alternative. cheers, james

Hey Shedoff, i do voice changing pretty easily now with GarageBand in the mac. It has a utility( voice changer) can convert My voice to sound like a women(Male to Female, Female to male), or hihger, or soulful etc, In fact, since my father doesn't want to do his voice in my movie, i'm just going to use my voice acting and then change it: ) also for my monster that i have in my movie, i will use it. the voice chaged with Garageband is great, and it works with mimic. i mean, mimic actually does produce correct mouth positions with it. :)

I have looked into voice changing software myself, and will be purchasing one at some stage, Just thought it would be a great idea for 3dtrue, as there is no software that does what mimic does and does voice changing. this i think would attract more buyers (even those who have mimic)
