those photos are all I've got there may be more on www.smithsonianmagazine.com when they become available to the public next month. the one on the right is an hand-mirror back, but it must have been bloody difficult to do mirrors in those days ;-) the one on the left I was able to find on daz, apparently as a texture, called "egyptian jewels" or similar. sold by moyra, but I could find no way to contact her to ask the source, and since this breastplate, with tutankhamen's secret name on it, is not available to the public for photographs, I have to assume that moyra used a photo like the above to create the texture, meaning it may be wholly derivative of a copyrighted image. I don't know anything, of course; benefit of the doubt and all that, as she may have been given special rights to photograph the object herself, or she may have used somebody else's photograph with permission, and may have written permission to prove it. however, as there's no read-me that I could find (prior to purchase), nor any obvious way to determine copyright or source, and as daz's copyright policy is essentially "caveat emptor", I would have to avoid purchasing her item to avoid any potential legal difficulties, until some clarification could be made. In the same manner, if you were to use the above photo (not recommended due to the poor quality), there would be similar legal issues unless you secured permission first. it's rather dodgy that I should even post the photos here, but I'm hoping it's a case of fair use, a limited use of the original source for purposes of criticism, copyright discussion or informational purposes.
