Oh, I get this all the time. I write and I do visual art (and design), and I used to be quite musical (as I've gotten older I've found I've lost some of my vocal range pout). I definitely find that I can think in words, or in pictures, or in lyrics/notes, but not all at the same time. It's like I get a "focus" on one area, and while doing that, there's only just so much creativity to go around. I've kinda gotten used to it. I just go with whatever it is that's currently occupying my creativity and interest and eventually the other stuff comes around and I do that for a while, then something else, etc. Hope that makes sense.
