The folks in the hardware store probably don't have a sign saying "try before you buy" next to the hammers, either. ;^) And grocery stores get really upset if you nibble your way down the aisles. Considering that feathers, blackboards, leaky pipes, and recordings of most popular music can be considered instruments of torture in the wrong hands, stores would be awfully empty if the only things they could sell were "mostly harmless".
