Well, there's going to be plenty of mods to him. Essentially he'll be an all new character. That one I'll make available :o) And I contacted them as well- It's the CC files themselves you can't hand out. Anything you create and port to LW is your creation, thus you can do whatever you want with it :o) This is a cool feature too- You can add to the CC library with LW meshes- so it'd be an awesome feature for, say.... Borg parts evil grin
I don't have the plug-in verion of Creature Creator, so my info here may not apply, but I think that it might, so, if you have not purchased the program yet you may want to consider this: I have the standalone version of Creature Creator and I like the program, but I have a BIG warning for anyone who is interested in the product: The REGISTRATION number for the product (without which it will NOT work!!!!!!) is tied to the computer that you installed it on!!! That same registration number will not work on any other computer!!! And, if you make some modifications to the original computer and then have to reinstall Creature Creator, the original registration number MAY no longer work even on that computer!!! So, no problem, so long as you never make any significant changes to your current computer and you never buy a new computer. Of course, they'll always give you a new registration number for your new computer, won't they? Probably, but go to their web site and look at what kind of detailed documentation they want from you if you buy a used copy of the program (from a previous user). They really don't trust you. But what happens if you buy a new computer and the company has gone out of business??? You're SOL!! Or what if they just don't like you? I made some criticisms of their product many moons ago (this very subject: the registration number; ClintH may remember my postings), and now they won't respond to my email messages about their new upgrade. (They have responded REAL fast if they don't know it's me; but when I identify myself I never get a response.) So I ask you, when I need to re-register my old version (I just bought a new computer), will they send me the new registration code or just ignore me???? I don't know yet. Let the buyer beware!! bitplayer
You bring up some good points. If it were me I would install it on the new computer and send them an email requesting my new s.n. If they do not answer you I would then inform them that I would be writing a letter of protest to every computer magazine that carries their ad for this product and also notifying TechTV, who is watched by tons of people. I think you will get results. And it is scarey that you can't use the standalone on another system. I am going to test the lightwave plugin on another system later this month, but I think it kicked out the system I.D. and will be the same as the standalone. It does bother me that if they go out of business we are screwed. I wish they had gone with a dongle, it would have made all this a moot point. I intend to write to them and ask them what will happen in that case. I have also had problems with them, they are very cocky and their tech support sucks. I finally got my problem resolved after many emails, and I did not think some of the answers I got were at all professional. For example, I can get the programmer up, he's got a temp and is sick but I can bug him with this if you want. Or, consider yourself the proud owner of the Lightwave plugin manual. Not appropriate as it turned out later that it wasn't my problem, it was a bug and the guy finally gave me a workaround for it. Would I buy this program again knowing what I know now? No. Marque
Sorry to hear about other folks having problems, as well; but good to know I'm not out in the woods all alone on this. The shame of it is that this could really be an butt-kickin' program. When I first got it I told them that they should kiss up to the Poser crowd more, 'cause we are a ready-made (fanatical) audience for them. Word-of-mouth in the Poser community could do them an enormous amount of business, I'd think. Especially now that the Pro Pack is going to make it so much easier to import and "bone" models of our own creation. I don't know how they think their current policies will make them any friends. Another user has told me that he has had to ask them numerous times for a new registration code just because he frequently scrubs his system (which makes it look like a new system when he has to reinstall CC). He has always gotten the new code, but not always quickly. Have you gotten notification of the new upgrade? Check it out at: http://www.fxrealm.temp.dataphone.se (Last time I checked this link it was not working. Maybe they started to sell the product before it was ready for release. They wouldn't be the first company to do that.) New program, Creature Lab, looks pretty neat. But, as I say, I've already "ordered" it online and gotten an online receipt, but have not heard one word on getting a registration code for about two weeks!! What's going on?? bit
Heya, I know all about the pain in the butt with the reg code.. I've had to re install 3 times for various reasons, and it's a pain to contact them every time.. so, I found an easy way around it. If you copy the cc exe file, then overwrite the new one on the reinstal, it saves your last reg number. So, it's like backing up the poser rsr for when poser kills itself.. this has saved me a lot of hassle for all the system rebuilds since then.. because the first time I bought it and regged it, I got the code in one night, the second time, it took almost a week to get the code.. hence my search for an alternative way before the third try.. lol Just a bit of help for all those cc users!
I FINALLY got the registration code! It took 11 days (9 business days)! Maybe the only reason I got it that "soon" is because on the day before I got the code I sent them about 30 identical email messages telling them how long I'd been waiting and asking them to please send the code. Which they sent the next day. No apology, no explanation. Just the code. Question for jogert: I tried your suggestion (above) for saving the prior installation to see if it would work on a different computer. It didn't! Here's what I did: first I installed the software on my new computer. Then I attempted to run the software with the code they just sent me. It worked. The only obvious things the code did to the installed software were: 1) created a new file (the keyfile) called "cc1.key" 2) modified an existing file (previously created by the install) called "cc.cfg" I used a binary checker to check the before and after versions of the "CreatureCreator.EXE" file. The code did not make any modifications to that file: bit for bit, they were identical. Next I went to work and installed Creature Creator on my PC at work. It had a different System ID. It would not accept the new code sent to me by FXRealm. Then I copied just the "cc1.key" file from home to my work computer. I got a message that said "Wrong key in keyfile." Then I copied the "cc.cfg" file from home to my work computer, replacing the one that had been created by the installation at work. I still got the message that said "Wrong key in keyfile." Lastly I copied the "CreatureCreator.EXE" file from home to work. Still no good. The differences: 1) System IDs are different. 2) Foolishly, I installed with slightly different paths. I'll try again with identical paths and let you know the outcome. 3) Registry: I examined the registry and did not see anything obviously relating to the key code. Not even anything that MIGHT have been related as far as I could see. So, at this point I'd like to ask, jogert, can you try out your method of "saving" the old key and getting it to work again? Can you try installing on a different computer and see if you can get it to work, and then, if it does work, can you give us the exact steps that you took? It would be of great benefit to us all if there is a method by which we might bypass this painful registration system. Many thanks!!!
Marque, Any possibility you could try jogert's method first when you get your new computer? See if it will work for you? Jogert, Please let us know if there are any other details necessary to follow your registration flanking maneuver! (As I mentioned, it wouldn't work for me when installing to a different computer.) Thanks!
Thought you might be interested in the following communication between myself and FXRealm concerning my attempt to order the new version of Creature Creator (called Creature Lab) (the stuff between >> and << is from their message to me, which is at the bottom): =================== Hello, 1) >>If you do not want to have your order anymore we will cancel it and recharge your creditcard with 79 $. << Yes. I do NOT want the order anymore. You (almost) NEVER seem to understand what I'm saying (either you do not speak English well, or you are purposely misunderstanding what I say. In any case, I do not feel that I can trust you to do things correctly. Therefore, please credit my credit card. (Give me back my money.) 2) >>By the way concerning your Q about languagspeaking. In Sweden we speak russian, english, chinese and spanish with a dilect of Geborska.<< Yes. I know. I have had several friends in Sweden for over 30 years. (Some of them live quite near you.) They all speak excellent English. I admire the multi-language capabilities of so many of the Swedish people. HOWEVER, no matter what I say, you (at FXRealm) seem to understand only what is convenient for you, and ignore what I say if it is not an issue that you want to deal with. For example, I said that I have ordered from you on January 25 and that you charged my credit card on January 25, and it is now March 9, and you have still NOT sent me Creature Lab. That is 43 days!!!!!!! There is NO EXCUSE for taking that long to deliver an electronic product over the Internet. If there is a problem, you should have sent me an email message WEEKS AGO to explain the delay!!!! Instead I have sent you MANY messages asking you why you had not sent the software to me. I sent those messages several weeks ago, BEFORE www.fxrealm.com was taken offline. I never got a bounceback on those messages, which means they must have ended up in your mailbox. But you NEVER responded to them!! You never told me why there was a delay. The best explanation for this is that you are not a competent business. The worst explanation is that you are thieves. I assume it is because you are not a competent business. In either case I don't see any reason why anyone would want to do business with you. By the way, your web site, even though you have moved it to a new location, still shows your OLD email addresses at fxrealm.com which is now bouncing back all messages sent there. Fix your web site!!! And, while you're at it, fix the download link for the demo of Creature Lab. It has NEVER worked! (Do you guys do ANYTHING right???) 3) >>we have many orders to deliver.<< How long does it take to attach a software file to an email message and press the "send" button?? 60 seconds maximum? Let's be real generous and say it takes 5 minutes to send each software delivery. If you work only 6 hours a day and there is only one person doing email software deliveries, that is 3096 deliveries you could have made in the last 43 days. Mine was not one of them. Why not??? I work for a software development company and we sure do a LOT BETTER than that!! Our target customer is every teacher in the United States. I'd guess there are a lot more teachers in the United States than there are computer 3D modelers in the entire world. But we don't take 43 days to respond to a customer!!!! If it takes us more than 3 days we feel that we are doing a terrible job. But it doesn't seem to bother you that you take MORE than SIX WEEKS! 4) >>You seem to have some problem with your mail sending function.<< There is no problem with my email sending function. The reason you have gotten about 10 or 15 copies of my last couple of messages is that when I send just one copy you have never responded to me, so I have purposely sent many copies to try to get your attention. It seems to have worked. 5) I am sorry that I have been so unpleasant to you in this message. I realize that the person who I am writing to is probably not the person who is responsible for the problems that I have been having with your company. It is probably the owners or managers who have done such a bad job of managing the company that have caused this situation. I am not this unpleasant to other companies. In fact, I have written glowing testimonials for two other software companies whose products and services are far superior to yours. One testimonial spoke so highly of the company that they said it was the best thing anyone had ever said about them and their product. But that is not how I feel about your company? Why is that, do you think? Is it me? Or is it you? I've spoken to other users of your products, and from what they tell me (not very happy things), I think it must be YOU. If you were a business in the United States I'd file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. 6) >>Next time you order we charge reg.price 299$<< Trust me, there will NEVER be a NEXT time!! Cancel my order and give me back my money!!! Goodbye. P.S. As I said, I've spoken to other users of your products. I plan to continue speaking to them to let them know of my experiences with your company. The Internet makes it very easy to do that. ------------------------------------------------ At 11:12 PM 3/8/01 +0100, you wrote: Hi, We do not sell software on credit, that is why we charge before we send it. The money will be on you account within the next few weeks. Next time you order we charge reg.price 299$ By the way concerning your Q about languagspeaking. A demon WIP. He's fully posable right now as is. He was created in LW Creature Creator :D I'm not too happy with the poly amount in him though, and the shapes of certain parts of his body. DEMON 1 DEMON 2
