You want a modeler. Wings (www.wings3d.com) is an excellent free modeler with considerably more features than Anim8or. Silo and Hexagon are both nice pay-for modelers that should do the job and cost a lot less than the 'major' apps, although Silo might still have issues with obj export. Not sure. Silo and Hexagon both have free 30 day trial versions if you want to take a look. I've only dabbled with Shade, a sister product to Poser. It might be a good candidate. Wings is still my favorite modeler as far as working fast goes. There are a bunch of other free or inexpensive modelers out there. After a couple years messing around with demos and shopping them I realized that I need to just stick with one and improve my modeling skills. In other words, a good artist with a low end modeler will make much higher quality stuff than I could even with the best modeler. Sometimes we hobbyists get too wrapped up in the 'I want a modeler that does all the whiz-bang stuff' thing and then realize later that it hasn't improved our modeling a lick...on the other hand, it's fun to get a new modeler. lol.
