WOW! Now this is a fascinating thread indeed! I've got hooked to photography when we bought the Sony f717 3 months ago! yep! I'm just loving it! But...to go backward...I wanted to study photography at one point when I was a teenager and my stupid father laughed at me and told me that photography was very mathematical and, knowing how hopeless I was and still am with everything mathematical, I just gave up the idea before I even started! Silly me! Oh well...as for the addiction, I agree with Kort about the immediate reward of digital photography! I'm not a patient person at all and digital is so perfect for me!! It feels like this is what I've been waiting for all these years! Yep!
