Bit of a followup to suggestions by JeffH and Harie: both methods work, but exporting and re-importing 'obj' files eliminates the ability to color the parts differently, or to adjust sizes of parts. harie's trick works for me, leaving me the ability to adjust and color individual parts separately. Good trick! Wonder why that works and parenting to other parts doesn't?
