Nice idea ziggie ... you know you can make a really wet effect... change the footprints above to negative and use as specular map on a plane, it is the best effect when you render animation and change the light, the footprints will shine. you can also use a reflect node on a plane and plug in the footprints as low value bumps... it will looks like somebody was walking on the mirror .. I made this one a time ago in test animations :)

Hi Cath, (Mec4D) I did try that and from the top that does look really good. Maybe I'm too much of a perfectionist, but I learned that viewing from different camera angles will affect the realism of the effect, which is why I was looking for other ways to approach this. I think displacement maps are somewhat limited, although I hadn't thought of blurring the image, that would probably solve the hard edges. What started out as simply playing is becoming a bit of an obession LOL. I'll keep playing with it and see what comes of it. Thanks for your responses.
Tyger purr, Nice job, that definitely softens the edges. I think we're getting closer to creating a decent footprint. After sleeping on it for the night I think I'm going to go back to the original render (Figure 7)and instead of inverting it, just remove the black baground and then like Mec4D and Tyger purr try blurring the edges to soften them a bit. I'll play with that idea today and see what I come up with.
Sorry if I sound like a wet blanket (of sand??), but I'm afraid that none of the above attempts look very realistic to me. Please don't get offended; I sincerely admire the efforts going on here, but I feel I should add some constructive criticism. It took me a while to work out what I was seeing seemd wrong, but post 31 clarified it for me. If you look closely at a footprint in wet sand, you'll notice that the heel and the ball (plus the toes) of the foot go in deeper than the arch, and are distorted lengthways. This is because when the foot hits the sand as it lands, most of the weight is on the heel, and that weight is pushing forwards, not just downwards. As the stride continues, the weight is transferred fairly evenly through the arch, then onto the ball. Then the sand is pushed backwards as the foot propels the body forward. So you end up with deeper, longer heel and ball. The effect is even more noticable when running. I hope this is of some help. I'm not trying to be destructive.... I wonder if it'd be possible to do something using a python script? Okham??? Cheers, Diolma

I know this thread was done in June 2005 but I was wondering if it would be applicable to Vue5 Infinity?
I have a V3 walking along a beach barefoot at the waters edge.(The water is animated with a small surf rolling onto the beach) I want to animate one foot after the other (Walker Deigner V3 walk) 76 frames with a wet sand.
Do I set up my figure in Poser 6 first,Save as a PZ3 ? ..and then import into Vue ,or do I make my adjustments in Vue itself. If so,how do I do this? I have been working on this project off and on for about six months and I am tearing my hair out trying to achieve this animation.
Any help fully appreciated. Cheers

A couple of questions regarding LZ2483's WIP.
Is the figure rotated 180 degrees below the ground plane?
How do you move the main camera facing down towards the feet? Every time I try to re- position the camera everything moves!
How is the square rotated to get a black outline?
For a 139 frame animation,do I have make 139 separate displacement maps frame by frame?
I am attempting to do this tutorial step by step to make an animation of a figure walking along a walk path on a beach leaving footprints in the sand as she goes!
