"All other setting are irrelevant." Actually, not quite.. Ensure that any specular, ambient and translucence values are also zero - these can sometimes add effects like that. If you post a screen capture of your mat room sttings, I'm sure someone will know exactly what is the problem. (Or more likely, you'll notice it before that.
