Subject: Examples of Sketch Render that really look hand-drawn?

danamongden ( ) posted Thu, 16 June 2005 at 9:09 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 10:37 AM

I've been playing a little with the Sketch renderer in P6, trying different presets and tweaking various values. I'm looking at using P6 for a web-comic and would like a hand-drawn look, i.e. outlines with posterized fills. However, I have been unable to achieve this with either the sketch renderer or the "Toon Render" in the material room. I definitely get a NPR style, but it just looks badly drawn or badly Photoshopped. Has anyone achieved a good hand-drawn look with these, and was it done with minimal hand-holding? I ask because throughput will be key for this project -- anything that requires too much tweaking or custom postwork each time is just too much effort for the effect. If you've achieved such effect, could you post/link-to a sample and some notes on how you did it? If you've tried and failed, could you tell me that it's not just me? danamongden

Geep's advice will be valuable, but I've never seen a unretouched Poser render that looked like a human drew it as a cartoon, and I've been asking the same question you've just asked for several years now, since before I came to this site.

Take a look at Inkulator/Ink9000. It may not be what you're looking for on this project, since it does mainly outlines, but you might find it useful for something else.
