Simplest way to think of colorspaces (also called gamut) is to think of a huge box of crayons. Each colorspace represents a different box that contains a specified number of crayons/colors than the others. sRGB's box is a lot smaller with fewer colors than the AdobeRGB box. sRGB contains the colors that are approximately what the average monitor can display.
