Hi Catlin , Yes I have been involved in Gemstones and Lapidary for over 20 years so 3d, photography, lighting , and science all play a big roll in my work. Understanding reflection, refraction, I.R, radiosity, specular ect are so important to this feild. I made some light probes from gemstones as well as reflection maps on some older work.
