Incidently, your movie texture should apply just as well to the figure if it is "parted" instead of "grouped". That's assuming you have the weld commands in the CR2.
Early versions of IV and GV were "parted", because the OBJ importer breaks them up when you bring them into Max. I sorta assumed that was the way Vickie III herself was, until Dodger straightened me out. I still don't have any easy way to make true unimesh figures, except by a super involved scheme where you export in one group then use materials with the group names to select the parts in UV mapper, and then have it (UV Mapper) make the groups, which then have to have the right material names put back on. Dodger actually made the current true Unimesh OBJ files for me.
Anyway, I gather Lightwave might have different tools, I just wanted to say that for most uses there isn't really a problem with detached groups, other than maybe the Poser 6 no-weld bug, anyway. You should be able to Rotoscope (the term for what you want to do) a texture on your character fine, Poser applies textures to materials anyway, not groups.
