A company called Zalman out of Korea makes many products to let your computer run quiet. Someone mentioned watercooling. Some watercooling systems can be actually louder than a out-of the-box Intel fan. I've seen one with *three* fan. The Reserator, water-cooled fanless CPU cooler, is impressive, and whisper quiet. I use this one, and it was very easy to install. The hardest part was finding distilled water. The downsides are it's not very portable, and it's expensive.
