It depends... Example, a woman's suit, if it's tailored traditionally, will have the buttons on the left, and therefore the belt will fasten left to right. However, if she's a modern gal wearing jeans, the belt will go the "male" way, ie, right to left. A notable exception is the WWII Waffen SS dress belt, which fastened the "female" way, for reasons I have not yet discovered.

I don't know about fashion (either now or before) but when I wore a belt, I fastened it on the left side, ie., the pin was on the left side and so was the end of the belt once attached. France

Um, hmm. Interesting question. I have to admit that I have the tail on the opposite side from the one I've got my insulin pump attached on. If the pump is on the right side of my stomach, then the tail of my belt is on my left side for example. I guess I never really thought about which way was the right way to wear a belt. Kristta
For me the tail of the belt is usually on the left. I don't know that there IS a "proper" way for a woman's belt to go. I wear mine that way because it's just more natural for me. And I'm sort of left handed, but also sort of right handed (quasi-ambidextrous). Some things I can only accomplish as a lefty - writing, drawing, etc, and other things as a righty - scissors, pot stirring, etc. The worst is that I both catch and throw with my right hand, which made it tough to pass high school gym class during softball season. :) Kate the Weirdly Wired
Thanks everyone! I made my last one left tailed without thinking about it, so it's good to know that wasn't a complete faux pas. This is a fairly casual affar, to partner with the Jean Skirt, so I guess leftwards is the way to go again. Although with some of the smarter textures on it, maybe it should go right? Maybe I should make both versions? :) France, surely the pin and the tail can't both go the same way? :)

I'm modelling a belt, which is why this is here... My question is, when a woman wears a belt, which way does the tail go? All except two of the pictures I've found so far show the loose end going off to the woman's right, whereas I wear mine to the left. Just wondering, is this a matter of personal taste? Whether you're left- or right-handed? Or is there a convention to it, like the buttons on men's shirts and women's blouses being on opposite sides? I don't actually know any belt wearing women that I can ask, so perhaps you nice people can help me. If the answer is obvious but I've missed out on it, feel free to laugh at me. :D
