it's all 3D as far as i can remember. read an article about it at one point.

aprilgem ( ) posted Sat, 02 July 2005 at 9:16 AM

I read an article on it too, but as far as I can remember, it said it was all real and that they did many, many takes.

aprilgem ( ) posted Sat, 02 July 2005 at 9:19 AM

Oops. But wait. Just saw the ending. This isn't the commercial I saw with the article -- it looks a little like it, though. I think the original one that this one is based on was real and maybe this one is 3D (it looks it). I'm guessing the first one (which showed in another country) was such a big hit that they made this one, and instead of taking the time and effort that they did on the first one, they saved some time and did it in 3D.

as far as I know there has been at least one commercial like this that has been claimed to be real.

I too have seen this on a television programme about the Advert and, if i remember correctly, it took 6 weeks to make using real parts of the car but, not to sure about the tyres moving uphill, perhaps they had breaks to stop them moving backwards! ;)

If this real , how the wheel get up ?

Rayraz ( ) posted Sat, 02 July 2005 at 9:39 AM

I heard they put weights in the rims of the wheels to make them roll up hill (weight at the top, a bit off to the side the tire has to move towards, tire gets hit, gets pushed over the balance point, the weight pulls down and the only way it can go down is for the tire to start rolling.

MoonGoat ( ) posted Sat, 02 July 2005 at 11:47 AM

Yeah I've seen it before. Supposedly its mostly real physics. The site claims that it took 606 takes.

RobertJ ( ) posted Sat, 02 July 2005 at 2:52 PM

3d or real, i don't care, its a brilliant movie on its own. As for the tires, they tend to put small weights along the rim when they appear to wobble when they balance the wheels before they are being put on the car. But i don't that they are heavy enough to get a wheel rolling uphill. But who cares, its the effect that counts. All parts work, that is the message of that commercial :)

In case anyone's interested, there's another article on the making of "The Cog" by Wieden & Kennedy at AdForum.

i think its 3d and a rippoff off the original video saw that 2 years ago and that was facinating. this one is fun though, but id rather have the cars cheaper, 80% off a cars salesprize goes to pr. so the comercials ought to be good.

for some free stuff i made
and for almost daily fotos

Reminds me of "The Incredible Machine", one of the most awesome old games there is. Fun with Physics, that's what I say =)

Rayraz ( ) posted Sun, 03 July 2005 at 5:41 AM

oooh I know that program! I spent lotsa hours with that program. I think I might even still have it! ysvry, why make a ripoff that looks exactly the same?
