THE PLACE FOR ALL THINGS BRYCE - GOT A PROBLEM? YOU'VE COME TO THE RIGHT PLACE

Subject: Robot "slow WIP"

Sans2012 ( ) posted Mon, 04 July 2005 at 1:22 PM · edited Fri, 29 November 2024 at 3:34 AM

My time has been spent making this bot, well at least the last week or so for a couple hours a night. I haven't uploaded any new images in that time and I'm getting an itch to put something up. Like to know what you think so far. Any suggestions are welcome as always. I'm not 100% sure on what sort of scene to put it in as yet. I have a couple ideas, one was to have him in a workshop(completed and shiny of course) with failed attempts of his earlier constructions scattered around the workshop (not really original but I can think of plenty for that idea). Another was to have an army of these guys in a giant warehouse (another not so original idea). Or an action scene, he is looking towards an air ship that has just taken off, he missed his target or hit or kill or whatever. Maybe a sci-fi city in the background. Any way let me know what you think of the bot so far. I will still be adding some extra details before he's ready for a scene. I like those eyes, they look as if he can open the iris wider, can he? His feet look like he's too far forward in his "shoes", that may be a silly thing to say about robotic feet, but that's just the impression I get. It's a very nice design though.

I think it's fantastic! Especially the close-up is impressing... I like the idea of the workshop or the action scene in particular.

Cool Android. Is it a personal Security Android? Protecting Woman and Children?

shinyary2 ( ) posted Mon, 04 July 2005 at 10:15 PM

I say I like it a lot. =) Very, very nice modeling. Looks excellent indeed. Hehe the little hole in his chest looks like a bomb to me. =)

CrazyDawg ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 12:37 AM

I ove it, i want one, can i get one from any store that will give it to me free ;) Nice modelling and i do have to agree with everyone else.

I have opinions of my own -- strong opinions -- but I don't always agree with them.

shinyary2 ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 12:41 AM

I'm having a thought here. Were you going to add holsters for the guns on his hips? Might give him a bit of the appearance of a Western gunslinger, or a "Robocop" like look. =)

Sans2012 ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 2:06 AM

Robert, I like the idea of holsters, cool. The hole in his chest, I think I might add an extra light in there suggesting a power source or something. Maybe a rocket launcher on his back too, Boba fet style:] Analog-X, I'm not sure what he could protect at this time, for the moment it will be himself and me:] TheBryster, LOL. I don't think Drac has anything to worry about with me at the helm my-friend:) ek-art, yeah I agree with those two scenes as well. Man! a whole warehouse full of these guys could be a little to much for my PC to handle. CrazyDawg, I think this model will be in stores around 2079, so I would stop smoking cigarettes if I was you:) Thanks to all of you! for your kind comments and advice. I better get cracking on this one then:] Michael.

in the stores around 2079..man i'll be dead by then so i might as well keep smoking..

Aye, I really like this robot! Very drafty and well-assembled. I especially like the head area...

Want the next version! =) Oh, and speaking of Boba, why not a jetpack?

OK here is one pose Ive been considering.

Imagine he's in hot pursuit of his very first target. Being of course some cyborg space scumbag from the outer rim(cyborg space scumbags are the new worst enemy of his creators). He leaps of a two story building and lands in a low light alleyway. The ground beneath his feet crumbles and crushes like cheap candy(?)lol. He switches on his lasers and weapon and scans the area...TBC.

Anyway LOL! This is just a quick concept for the pose not the actual scene. I think I might be doing a series with this guy:] Let me know what you think of the idea so far.

Fran: Johny 5 lol.

P.S. I will be adding the upgrades we discussed earlier over a period of time. Eventually he will become a heap of rust, say 200 years from now(3D space time). Stay tuned. Cheers.

I know it's just a WIP, but might I suggest a light under the ground plane with shadows disabled to give a hint of ambient lighting? Things are after all very rarely full black in real life. =) The pose looks great, very natural and striking. Not to mention dramatic. Excellent going. =) Just glad I'm not his target. =)

Sans2012 ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 1:25 PM

Robert this isn't real life at all;) Course I will consider these details for the end result. At this stage I don't think the lighting is critical. But thanks for the comment on the pose, that's what I'm after:] Cheers mate!

lordstormdragon ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 1:38 PM

Aye, the pose is wonderful! Very dramatic and energetic, something that's difficult with 'bots... How'd you pose it?

Sans2012 ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 2:06 PM · edited Tue, 05 July 2005 at 2:10 PM

lordstormdragon:
Basically used origin handles and linking. Once all the Individual parts are grouped like the hand (forearm, shoulder, etc), I linked the hand to the forearm and created a pivot point at the wrist. I just repeated these steps for all body parts. So when I select his shoulder and rotate, it rotates on the origin handle and because its all linked (hand to forearm to shoulder) everything moves together.

Very handy for bots indeed. It can be a bit frustrating, but in the end I think its well worth it. Especially if you decide to use the bot in another position. Hope this has basically answered your question:]

Aye, that about covers it! Did you use Bryce, then, to pose it?

cornelp ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 7:04 PM

Man the Robot is just stunning. What U make it in, Rhino, Wings, what? very very detailed, just splendid work. Me like it, me want it, lol. very owesome work.

shinyary2 ( ) posted Tue, 05 July 2005 at 8:23 PM

Have you downloaded drac's robot? He has a very good method of using parenting to making posing characters in Bryce every bit as easy as Poser, in my opinion (minus the morph targets of course =P). Personally I'm looking forward to the beatup, rusting robot. That should look cool =)

Sans2012 ( ) posted Wed, 06 July 2005 at 1:01 AM

I'm sorry to disappoint you guys:) All Bryce! Built, posed, rendered in Bryce:]Some PW in Photo shop. But I must say, thanks for the compliments, to think I was using high end software. Its funny you mention wings. I installed it last night and had a quick play. Man! it look like a lot of fun! I made this power generator type thing, in like 5 Min's. To do the same model in Bryce would have taken, well it would have taken 10 times that. Wings is my new toy and for free it doesn't get any better than that.

lol well I don't have it anymore... it's a great model but I'm allergic to using other people's models, it seems. =) I lost it when my computer died, and just never downloaded it again.
