It is very good, planit3d might host it for you if you ask them.

Arrangements can be made with Odd Ditty Foundry to host this for you, and I believe that Vanishing Point will host it as well, although I may be wrong. www.oddditty.com (send a message to Dittyfolk if the file is over 2MB and she'll see about gettin it up for ya) www.vanishingpoint.com The set if very nice. I can see many an adventure taking place....

Fantastic! I can't wait to get my rendering hands on that. ;)

randym77 ( ) posted Sat, 09 July 2005 at 7:22 PM

Ooh, I love it! It does look very "Star Trek."

I modeled this about a year ago, but hoo boy, you put a lot more detail into it..great work. Only suggestion I'd have is smoothing the cylinders in the central portion (where the dilithium chamber is, and yes, I do watch too much TV..;) there were some white plastic items coming out of the bottom consoles (well, on one episode, and their main function seemed to be a truncheon..;), but, if you've done any modeling, you'll realize that nothing stays the same on ships, rooms, etc. You can almost trace the evolution of the place (the small center portion was missing in the early episodes)
Another person who might have some tips would be Tony01701, at Excalibur Productions (I think that's the name). Not sure if he does collaborations or not, but who knows..
great work, I'll look for it wherever it goes..;)

I wish I'd said that.. The Staircase Wit

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Sat, 09 July 2005 at 10:46 PM

Hmmm... I've seen a lot of bridge and transporter sets. Even one docking bay for the shuttles, but I don't think I've seen Ten Forward or the old TOS cafeteria. Some basic TOS hallways would be nice to see too if you're that adventurous. ;)

Lost in Space. WOW... I remember Robbie. Is that show still running somewhere? I'm too young to have seen it when it was out, but I know I've seen it somewhere

LostinSpaceman ( ) posted Sun, 10 July 2005 at 2:53 AM

You can buy all three season's on DVD but as far as I'm aware, it hasn't aired since the Sci-Fi channel dropped it a few years back.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Sun, 10 July 2005 at 3:58 AM

That's a pretty good mesh. With Poser 5 and 6 you don't need to depend so much on texturemaps, but it would atill need a sensible UV mapping.

Sure, we can host it as well... but it seems like you've already found a home for it. :) Also, please remember that the URL for Vanishing Point ends in .biz, not .com. Thanks. --John

Hrm... I get weird distortions when rendering this file in Poser 6 using both the Poser 4 renderer as well as firefly.

file_267726.jpg

It renders just fine in Poser 4 though!

TrekkieGrrrl ( ) posted Mon, 11 July 2005 at 5:22 AM

It's probably just out of phase ;o) Seriously it's a very nice set! And yes, some Enterprise hallways would be VERY nice! TOS would do, though I do prefer TNG... ~TrekkieGrrrl

Mizrael try selecting normals forward in the materials room for the parts that don`t render properly and try rendering again.

Actually I solved it in the render settings by putting checks in "Remove Back Facing Polys" and "Smooth Polys"

randym77 ( ) posted Mon, 11 July 2005 at 4:56 PM

So that's what "remove back facing polys" is for. And here I thought it was just supposed to speed up the render.

AntoniaTiger ( ) posted Tue, 12 July 2005 at 2:46 AM

Works for some things, not for others. Quite a few open jackets would develop visible holes if you removed back-facing polygons. Try finding which material is involved and applying a very small displacement. Just needs a Simple Color node plugging into the displacement input, and the dial setting to a low value.

randym77 ( ) posted Tue, 12 July 2005 at 5:43 AM

A lot of the older clothing at Poserworld has black splotches. Adding displacement doesn't fix it, and the affected areas are so tiny and irregular that it's beyond my ability to fix with the grouping tool. I'll have to try the back facing polys thing.
