In this image, I wanted snow on all the rooftops, but no matter what I tried, no terrain looked good. It looked fake. Help me out, please! --Zak

k, what you may wish to try is... either make a MIXED material with one fo the snow mats in Vue combined with the actual roof material, OR use my methof of transparency and do the same. Can also use noise or fractal to introduce randomness to snow pattern :)

Here is a trick originally suggested by Guitta. - select all the rooftops - Duplicate the selection - Change the material of the selection to 'snow'. - move the selection a little bit up You may have to adjust the size and position of each rooftop to make it look nice but I hope you get the idea :)

There's a texture in VUE 4's 'landscapes' pre-set materials called "Snowy purple stripes", which is a mixed material made of a snow texture and striped rock. You can edit this texture and substitute wood, tree bark, rock , or your roof textures, for the purple stripes. Once you apply this new material to your object, you can tweak the mix to your liking. I did this in my gallery image "A Cold Drink" for the trees, rocks, and terrain, and it worked wonderfully. Examining how Vue's pre-set materials are put together is a great way to learn all kinds of techniques! --Dennis
