Nice! I like "My Immortal" by them, as well.

Awsome entry Cyn! Even better because as soon as I saw this here I went into my iTunes and played the song. Definately the best way to view the picture is to have the song playing in the background! Very striking and moving image. And looks like you are still in pretty darn good shape! ((wink, wink, nudge, nudge)) That whole Fallen album is pretty good, kinda of a 80 retro rock with a nu-metal and Sarah McLachlan/Delerium flavor. Whisper, Haunted and Everybody's Fool are other favorites of mine. =]

thanks again kind friends :]...
the song has haunted me for awhile & i always did want to illustrate it
something spurred me to immerse myself in creating it

the eyes were a given, the doors were harder to envision
but came out well in the "difference"
layering option at less then 50% opacity (30%?)
duplicating the layer for the 2nd eye & merging only the 2 "doors"
not open but closed which i figured was alright
it's a shame that the lock does not show in the pupils...
after placing the doors, it felt stagnant so i rotated them at an angle
still needed something... to give that lost feeling

i did a similar nude photo in college...
for a full size drawn self portrait assignment
(kept me from having to draw the face too... hehe)
i set that up with a black felt background using the self-timer,
knocking my camera against the stand i had it on
& dislodging the extended lens!!!!
my insides went cold when that happened! arrrrgh...
but thankfully it popped back in place with a little pressure
without ruining the gear! wheeeeeeeew! cam still works!
geeez what a klutz

so... adding the figure tied the 2 doors together...
flattened image, saving several times during the process
but then i wondered how would it look with a b&w background
PSP decided to freeze up & couldn't go back... pppppht!
using the desaturation tool, i went around the doors to take the color out
& compared the 2... preferring the mix of color against the b&w emphasizing the overlay

i'm still working on the font... evened them up since posting here
toying with the idea of adding a textured layer behind the lettering

& that's how this came about for a little background

the whole cd is wonderful! i luv "my immortal" too the other idea i had for this song which has been done before, is use a stretched piece of fabric (like white jersey) & be the figure behind the cloth pressing against it in expressive poses would be difficult to set up but something i would still like to try sometime

Yippers. Always enjoy reading about the techniques of a particular piece. Thanks for sharing.

As to my immortal, my wife and I debate whether or not the subject of the song is alive or dead.

Damn! This is cool. You are talented and creative and although the whole explanation of how you did this is like me trying to read Arabic, I have faith that someday it will all come together. Thanks for your patience and support with me and "others" out there like me. Have a great week, J
