From the outside looking in --
I suspect that the point at which OT becomes OT is when the topic in question generates copious amounts of heat -- I.E. - when members begin to attack each other.
So basically -- subject matter involving politics, religious faith, sexual issues, or strongly conflicting opinions of any sort won't be allowed to continue for long. I think that this is a good rule of thumb when one is operating in the Renderosity forums.
However, certain non-controversial OT threads have been quashed in the past, too........

Frankly, it's not an issue that matters much to me. I know that some people can get foaming at the mouth with rage over post/thread deletions or locking. But to me -- it's almost as important as the cable TV signal cutting out during a storm.
Irritating -- but minor.
