From what I've seen and read, there is a slight speed increase given by going 64-bit. The big advantage is in address space, but we won't be seeing much gain in that respect until software companies start migrating their software to true 64-bit. My 'workhorse' system is a dual Xeon with WinXP Pro, but it's an older 32-bit. My 64-bit system is a 939-socket AMD (to allow transition to dual core AMDs when available and affordable) with WinXP Pro x64. I haven't done much with it yet as I've been ridiculously busy of late and it doesn't have an internet connection (but it does have a wireless card).

C makes it easy to shoot yourself in the foot. C++ makes it harder, but when you do, you blow your whole leg off.
