Subject: e-group Bamboo vob needed

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Sun, 18 February 2001 at 8:05 PM · edited Sun, 01 December 2024 at 12:20 PM

Last year, at e-groups...we had a bamboo vob being offered in the e-group shared files. I downloaded it, but as I crashed so badly over xmas, I didn't get a chance to save it to disk. Does any one have it...or have something similar? I need it for an oriental scene I am creating. Your help would be most appreciated. Any suggestions or hints would also be grateful. beck

I think Varian have some nice bamboo for grabs....right Varian?...if not, there is a lot of it at my 'jungle like backyard behind my shabby old attap house in this rural ground :) Bill

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Sun, 18 February 2001 at 8:50 PM

Bill As always you are my knight in shining armour!!! I'll check his site out asap hug beck

tesign ( ) posted Sun, 18 February 2001 at 10:08 PM

"....knight in shining armour"...hee! x2....I need a lot of "Brasso" (sorta Chrome Polish) though...LOL! If you can't find them, let me know...I think I have downloaded a stem like bamboo from one of the old Vue exchange user group before. Have to hunt for it in my missy messy hard drive. To start with, I don't even know which drive?(seven in all) :( Bill

Varian ( ) posted Sun, 18 February 2001 at 11:38 PM

(passing Bill some tarnish cleaner for his armor...hehe!) The Bamboo.vob is my model; it's exclusive to Room With A Vue so that's the only place it can be found now. Lots of other cool Vue models and etc. there, too, so have fun browsing around! :)

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 2:05 AM

Varian, the link at the site is broken. It is pointing to Silverbranches realistic lens flare and both are not found. But it is a cool site, havent been there in a long time. Thanks for the link :) (passing Bill a soft polishing cloth to go with his Brasso)

tesign ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 2:33 AM

WHAT!?...no link to bamboo? Tell u what Beck, bring along a few can of beer and a soft polishing cloth and come over to my backyard. We will have fun getting them bamboo for you while you get my armour shine :) Meantime, Varian can go plant some new bamboo for yer to harvest later...LOL! Bill

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 7:50 AM

Cool.....3 o'clock sound like a good time Bill? ;)

Varian ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 9:21 AM

oops...try this link: Room With A Vue 2. The site is sort of in both places for awhile, and with luck, this entrance will work properly. Now I got to get back to the seeding. LOL! ;)

tesign ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 9:24 AM

What?....bamboo grows from seed?...I thought they were stem planted. Bill

Varian ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 9:34 AM

Well fuddy! That link (2) isn't working at all. :/ Well, the first one does work...the graphics just aren't loading for some reason. Here's the download index page: http://www.1avenue.com/roomwithavue/download.html But...of the objects, materials, etc., I can't locate the bamboo.vob (or several other items that I know were there before). Apparently there is too much dust for all the construction to see the site. :(

Varian ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 9:57 AM

Alright. Just for you, Beck, in honor of your recent birthday (and of course, for anyone else who happens to come along, too -- with or without a birthday), my bamboo model is now available in the Renderosity freestuff. Hope it's suited for what you need. I took Bill's tip and planted it via stem this time; no seeds. :)

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 2:17 PM

Thanks Varian =) I am so glad!!! Heyyyyyy according to the date on the forum...it is still my birthday today!! This must mean I get to celebrate it twice! Cooool!! Seriously, Thank you so very much all of the trouble you have gone to, and for the stem planting!!!! Beck ps. A big thankyou to Bill too ;)

Thanks Varian! As you can see, YOUR bamboo is doing far better than the one in my backyard, which didn't seem to like the cold spell we had last month in Florida too much, LOL! --Mike

MikeJ ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 9:37 PM

Yeah, I know, the pool needs a cleaning too. ;)

tesign ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 9:47 PM

Hmmmm..I wonder! The bamboo from Varian looks so diffrent from the one we have here. Seen those that a Panda bear loiters around in...in China? That's our kind of bemboo here. Too bad I can't see what bamboo you have Mike :( Bill

MikeJ ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 9:55 PM

Here you go Bill, just for you---sorry the picture's kinda blurry-- my digital camera's kinda "funny" too. ;) http://www.jacksonville.net/~mowenj/VuePics/Bamboo.jpg

tesign ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 11:39 PM

Ahhh!...I see it now. Your bamboo sure need help with more watering. There is more dry area then more green. Here, the bamboo looks like yours and they are all luster with bright solid green except for a few bay color dead leaves that serve their time. Thanks for the trouble to set up the link. Btw, taking away those chairs and the pool and the background fences and 'shelters' and putting Trex in makes a good image :) Is that your part of yor home. Bill

tesign ( ) posted Mon, 19 February 2001 at 11:41 PM

Hey Beck!....Happy Birthday to you! :) Bamboo from Varian for a birthday 'present'...don't sound right...one usually get flowers, cakes, choclates, cake etc...but bamboooos?...LOL! Bill

Sacred Rose ( ) posted Tue, 20 February 2001 at 1:46 AM

Bill you are sooooo funny. The special person wasn't Bloodsong, but the gift was her Dragon Factory. :) The bamboo isnt for the dragon factory its for another image. It is having huge problems, so it is being delayed somewhat due to transparency problems with poser imports into vue. It looks like Ill be doing some heavy post work if I ever want this image to be finished :( So much for progress! re your chinese phoenix...sorry sweety haven't seen one, but there is a great dragon rat in the gallery somewhere LOL Beck

Hi Beck...I see a big Renderosity logo...LOL! Anyway, I going over to my blocks down in to my friend's place to have a look later on. Thanks for the link. Bill

Varian ( ) posted Tue, 20 February 2001 at 9:23 AM

Goodness, things have turned crazy here...like they usually do around this place - LOL! Okay...why doesn't my bamboo look like Mike's or Bill's? Um, well, it probably has something to do with the fact that I've never seen bamboo. Nope, not once. A few pictures, like Mike's, but not like for real. So my bamboo model is sort of based on old Chinese and Japanese drawings (mostly close-up types) and the couple bamboo flutes I've had in my life. So while I've seen bamboo itself, I've never seen a bamboo plant -- er, tree? But if you enlarge the model and make a bunch of duplicates of it, you can probably get a bush/tree out of it. :) Mike, water your bamboo! LOL! Hey, when did Bloodsong have a sex change operation??? =:o Bill, awesome bear! Keep it going! :) Varian

tesign ( ) posted Tue, 20 February 2001 at 10:22 AM

Hey Varian!...my errr..thousand a apologise. I was passing by my national botany here today and decided to drive in and check the bamboo species out...and YES!....there was your kind of bamboo. They were potted and beautifully groom! There is such type :) Hooray!...so you flutes are made of those...I play a recorder and its plastic...hard plastic....LOL! Now, can you model a less exoctic type China Panda type bam the boo? I would love to have that. May be I will just give the DAZ3d bear a new coat of Panda txture and 'dump' him/her among them....blowing your flutes....LOL! Bill :)

MikeJ ( ) posted Tue, 20 February 2001 at 10:57 AM

Oh the bamboo has got plenty of water. It's the cold it couldn't handle, because we had about two weeks of more or less constant rainy, nasty, dreary days where the temperature rarely went above 50 during the day, and down into the 30's at night. The palm trees fared well, but the banana trees and the babmboo had all their leaves die. I'm worried about the bamboo tree, actually, because it looks great during the summer, and this is the first year I can remember out of the 13 yearsa I've been living here that it's stayed so cold for so long. Last week was almost hot with several days in the 80's and this week in the upper 70's, but the bamboo still isn't showing any signs of life and even the green parts of the stems are brown now. :( Well, at least I'll have some new bamboo fishiong poles if I want. Maybe I can sell them, LOL

Varian ( ) posted Tue, 20 February 2001 at 12:57 PM

Yay Bill! I'm glad to know my bamboo isn't completely imaginary after all! :) Mike, if you check the eGroups list archives (well, Yahoogroups, now), about a year ago, there was a lively discussion about wild bamboo, and judging from that, I'd say your bamboo will likely recover....and then take over your whole yard! LOL! Fishing poles! Yes! Long before I got my first flute, I had a bamboo fishing rod. Forgot about that thing...it was a long time ago, and us old guys get senile, y'know. ;) Bill, give the panda a fishing pole, and maybe the bamboo model can be stretched to look like a tree/bush? Or hm...maybe I'll need to do some botony research!
