They use the justification of "...it also serves as a valuable resource for art directors and buyers to find the current top art talent. We distribute complementary copies to hundreds of qualified art directors and publishers to generate additional work and exposure for the artists selected for inclusion." They try to tell you that you'll make more to be in it than the entry fee, but that doesn't change the fact it's still a gamble that you pay up front without no guarantee of being included. It's a lot worse odds than in Vegas. And even longer odds than that some art director is going to pick you to do some work for them. Most of the time the copies they get just sit in a pile somewhere and maybe years go by before they pick 1 or 2 names from it. I wonder if you ask the artist that were included the last 2 years if they ever got any interest from being included what they would say? The odds are all on the side of the publishers since they've already made more on the entry fees before it's even published to more than cover the costs and then they make even more profits from the sale of it, most as vanity publishing from the artists that are in it and the friends they pursuade to buy it to get some of their art. So it's a great deal for the publishers but not so hot for the artists
