Yeah, sounds pretty bad to me. Although it does seem that most of the contests that Renderosity lets me know about have a submission fee, so either that's the norm for contests, or Renderosity specifically targets those sorts of contests. I'd personally prefer to believe the former. =) I think that they should provide the artists involved with a commission on the sales. I don't think it's fair to ask them to return the submission fee if they don't accept your artwork (after all, they are paying the judges to look at it). As it is, though, it's definitely a good deal for the publishers. As for people looking at my artwork should it get published... well, it appears that most of the stuff they have is traditional artwork, which is definitely NOT where I want to go with my career. So even if I did get something accepted (a long shot anyhow), the wrong people would be looking at it. So, I think I'll refrain from submission myself. =)
