Have you tried starting Poser from the Safe Mode? I know resolution and everything will be lousy but the object is to see if anything will show on screen. If it does, that might help to give you a clue as to what is loading during the normal start up that's causing problems. You sound faily savvy so you might be familiar with the msconfig command and how it works.
