Subject: POV Ray, Moray Poser & Bryce.

I have all of the above and have some models in Moray that I would like to use in Poser. I am also far more familiar with creating 3D objects in POV Ray from scratch.... Is there anyway I can get the files from POV (or Moray) into Poser? (I also have 3D Studio Max V3) if anyone can think of a routine using this...

You might want to talk to the young lady who posted this thread at my 3D Gladiators forums- Lake of Tears Also at those forums, there are a few MegaPOVRay users, ect. Talk to them as well.

You would be DEFEATING the purpose of POV RAY to take its models into Poser. Poser is a Phong Renderer ONLY. It is fairly ideal for Poser geometry and skintones, etc. The better idea (maybe) is to take your Poser characters into POV RAY... Since there is Python-Support for POV RAY and/or similiar versions of these freeware renderers, you or someone could even potentially write your own Poser-Import Plugin for POV RAY (if it hasn'e been done already...)

Fox, read the thread I had posted. This is precisly why I want Fychan to read it. The Poser model was imported into POVRay rather than what he's asking of imporing POVRay into Poser.

Actually I can see a very good reason to import from Povray to Poser - in order to get figures posing correctly in relation to a prop/bit of scenery before then moving the figures to Povray for the final render.

Pov-ray does not really use polygons (unless it is a mesh) and it needs a tesselator or something similar that will convert the geometry into polygons. A few weeks back someone tried to do this but he could not clear all the bugs in it. It required a recompile of Povray. Go to the povray newsgroup (check the povray page for details) for more information. Povray is not really designed for export of geometry. Crossroads will convert povray meshes but the support is limited. It will not convert procedural surfaces. good luck, FlyerX

Thanx guys, its been intrigueing (?) listening to this lot :) To clarify, basically I'm a lot better at creating environments & objects in POV Ray, so I was hoping to do both, bring my Poser people into my nice environments in POV, and to bring any objects I'd made into Poser so I could add them to my scences (bottles, glasses, strange objects, etc.) and make them look sensible (wrap Poser figures around them and position them in relation to each other etc.). I now have a copy of PoseRay (thanx FlyerX) and will try that out once I have my home PC working once again (currently being rebuilt!) and 3D Win (thanx Fox-Mulder :)), which will hopefully solve the problem in both directions... Perhaps I need MegaPOV as well, I'll have to do some tests to see for sure :) Perhaps once I get some nice piccies I'll post them somewhere & place a link back here, so you can see the fruits of your labour in helping me out :) Again, thanx for all the replies, I've been reading & researching them all, along with finding some other stuff out along the way.... Please don't think I've just sat back & waited for you all to help me and been rude :) Much appreciated, Fychan

(Wrap Poser figures around them and position them in relation to each other etc.)" I've started a project that may accomplish the same thing. I'm basically trying to logically segment a poser figure so that it can be exported into Moray in pieces and re-assembled to make it manipulable, and to make each part single textured. (Seperate eyes, hair, etc.) The head is going to be the worst, because I'll have to re-assign all the polys into seperate groups. I've tried it with just a re-assign without re-division, and it works so far.
