Aha. "Map" could mean two things in this context. From the fact that your new texture "comes out on the side of the head" is seems fairly obvious that you've made in error in the template stage. Basically, all meshes contain within them what is known as a UV Map. This is a mapping of the 3d surface to a 2d image space. Or, more simply, it's an instruction to the software how to "wrap" a flat image around a dimensional object. This mapping is different for most figures; some of the Millenium figures are able to share textures, but even then there are differences in the map at a detail level. For V3 -- and the majority of the other DAZ figures -- the templates that show you exactly how the texture is mapped onto the figure are available as free downloads from the DAZ store. Make sure the template you are painting to is V3's. Other than that, it sounds like you understand how to apply a new texture to a figure...the PP Materials pop-up is a nice and simple way to do it.
