file_289851.jpg

I'm trying to save the latest changes to a file and I get this message. I can open the file, work with the file, and save images, but when I try to save the file, it gets to about 90% saved and then I get this. I tried deleting excess meshes and textures, but to no avail. Any suggestions???? Help!!!

Have you tried to save under a different filename?

BecSchm ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 5:03 PM

Yes - still won't save. (sigh.....)

Are there any temp files in the directory you're saving to? I can't remember what bryce names it's temp files, but you should recognize them. Rename/delete them and try to save again. If that doesn't work: Can you open and then save(to a different name) your last good file, without making changes? How long does it take to save? What changes are you making? Is anything else running that might gum up the hard drive? Just shooting in the dark here. Bryce can save almost any size file, it might take days, but it'll save. You're getting an error though, so somethings wrong somewhere.

xenic - I'll try to find the temp file. I can't save to a new file name. When I save to a new name, I get the same error message; a file is created, but there is nothing in it when I open it up. It saves really pretty quickly but gives the error message at about 90% saved. Changes I'm making are moving meshes around and adding more stuff - not necessarily more high mesh stuff. I was adding more photo textures when this mess happened. Nothing else running. Going now to try the temp file thing. Thanks --

Save whole scene as an OBP file... Select all and save into a Library just for it...

Well...the temp file(s) can be renamed to .br5 files and they will open, but nothing is inside them.

Oh well!!! Will try the .obp thing... thanks!

still grasping at straws here.....

Are you running B5 or B5.5?

Have you rebooted?
It is possible that one of the new meshes is causeing the problem. You could try importing them one at a time, saving after each.

I've had a similar problem in the past with photo textures. Have you tried setting everything back to the default grey and then saving?

I'm on B5. I've not rebooted yet 'cause will loose all my current changes when I do. I'll try deleting all the photo textures first. If that doesn't work, guess I'll have to reboot.

Wasn't there some ol' problem with texture or import filenames being over 32 characters long or something like that? I swear there was some post on that before.

I deleted all (and I mean all) the textures in the file, and that worked. I was able to save the file. I don't think I'm gonna retexture everything tonight; had about enough of Bryce for one day! BUT, I think one of my texture files DID have a long name (and dang it, I think I'm the one who named it). Going to check that out now and rename... Thanks all!

BecSchm ( ) posted Mon, 05 September 2005 at 8:59 PM

OK, one of the textures had a 34 character filename, and 2 more had 33 letter names. (heh heh I named them myself). Unless it happens again with shorter file names, I'm gonna assume that the problem is solved. :)

when do we get to see the image? It looks very cool :)

Well, since you asked, I decided to go ahead and post it in the gallery. Hope you like. :)

Glad you got this figured out,(hopefully), but it seems that the biggest problems can be caused by the smallest stupid little detail.
