Tom I'm not going to ant try to change your mind of anything, but would like to say that I have the 10D with the vertical grip, and have never had the problems that you have mentioned (maybe your grip is faulty!?) I agree the servo isnt perfect and the 1 series is the way to go for pure performance, I have use the 1D MK II (very impressive) and the body style does eliminate most is the issues that you have mentioned. Of course the 40 odd focus points on the 1D will greatly help the servo. I think using servo on a camera with fewer focus points is harder to get right also.
